Sleep – it’s what we do best, and it’s incredibly important to us here at Panda. After all, we spend around a third of our lives in bed, so why not do it properly? We want to know the factors affecting UK sleep quality. Finding out the answer to how the country is sleeping helps to shape our innovations, and advise the nation on how to sleep better than ever.

Every year, we investigate the latest sleep trends in the UK, conducting vital research to determine how people rate their sleep, their habits, and much more. With 2000 respondents from across the UK, we have a pretty good understanding of how we’re all sleeping. Welcome to the Panda 2025 Sleep Report: the UK’s latest sleep stats.

Censuswide conducted the research among a sample of 2000 Natrep 16+. The data was collected between 04.04.2025 and 07.04.2025. Censuswide abides by and employs members of the Market Research Society and follows the MRS code of conduct and ESOMAR principles. It is also a member of the British Polling Council.

How would you rate your sleep?

We asked respondents how they would rate their sleep on a scale of 0 to 10, and 5% of people rated their sleep a perfect 10—this is 4.1% higher than last year, so it seems some people are enjoying their best sleep right now. 74% of people rated their sleep 5 and above, a 5.1% increase on our 2024 Sleep Report. We’re confident that the nation is sleeping well, but we always want to push that number higher

If you’re dreaming of better sleep, you might be in the market for a new pillow. Our Hybrid Bamboo Pillow is the perfect balance of comfort and support, contouring to your sleeping position to keep you snoozing soundly. How much sleep are you getting?

In line with trends across the past few years, as seen in our 2023 and 2024 Sleep Reports too, less than half of the UK are actually getting the recommended 7+ hours of sleep per night. This is bad news – studies at Harvard suggest that an insufficient amount of sleep can lead to a higher risk of diabetes, obesity and other chronic health conditions. A lack of sleep is also linked to poor mood, diminished cognitive function and mental health problems.

If you want to improve how much sleep you’re getting every night, we’ve got good news: there’s plenty you can do to start winning at bedtime. First of all, your room should be dark, and around 15-20°C – these are the ideal conditions for drifting off with ease and more importantly, staying asleep. To keep you at just the right temperature, you might need to open your window, adjust the thermostat slightly, or invest in cosy but lightweight Cloud Bamboo Duvet. Available in two tog ratings that you can use alone or combine, it’s the perfect way to discover bespoke comfort. Do bedtime your way!

Limiting both day time naps and caffeine can help you sleep deeper for longer, and exercising during the day is a bonus too. Let’s raise the bar when it comes to how much the UK is snoozing…

How often do you snooze your alarm?

We also wanted to know how often people in the UK are hitting that snooze button in the morning – 26% of people said they get up as soon as that first alarm goes off, which is impressive in our books. 24% of respondents said they don’t set an alarm, but a whopping 49% of people snooze their alarm between one and five times of a morning!

Dr Ritz, psychologist and Panda Sleep Expert, says “when we hit snooze, it's often because our brain is craving a return to the more comfortable, non-alert state it was just pulled from. This is especially common when we're waking during the deeper stages of sleep — typically in the last sleep cycle — when grogginess and disorientation (known as sleep inertia) are at their peak.”

“The prefrontal cortex — responsible for motivation, planning, and self-control — hasn’t fully “come online,” which makes it harder to act on good intentions, like getting out of bed. If your brain learns that hitting snooze offers short-term relief, it starts to expect that cue-response pattern every morning. Breaking the cycle means introducing more appealing alternatives,” she continues.

Aim to start your mornings with something that feels good and gets the day off to a great start: yoga, journaling, your favourite coffee or even a dance party. And to ensure you’re waking up on the right side of the bed, why not invest in a Bamboo Mattress Topper? Adding an extra 5cm of luxurious comfort and support, it will help align your neck and spine to minimise aches and pains.

What position do you sleep in?

Your sleeping position is an integral part of your nightly routine – and it’s completely personal to you. Whether you lie flat on your back or prefer to be snuggled in on your side, everyone has something that works for them. It’s important to invest in sleep accessories that work for your chosen position, however, to ensure that your body is properly aligned and supported during the night. Our range of bamboo pillows and mattresses, as well our topper, are made with orthopaedic grade memory foam that contours to your sleeping position for comfortable, supportive sleep whichever way you want it.

As with our 2024 Sleep Report, the majority of respondents prefer sleeping on their side. This has numerous benefits, including clearer airways and reduced tongue obstruction for easier breathing and less snoring, as well as joint and muscle support. Sleeping on your left side is particularly encouraged; this can improve your circulation, provide better blood flow to the uterus while pregnant, and also prevent heartburn. The more you know!

What sleep aids do you use?

Falling asleep isn’t always a piece of cake, and there are plenty of different sleep aids people use to make it that little bit easier. As part of our UK sleep habits survey, we asked respondents to let us know their go-to helping hands, giving them the option to choose more than one. 40% and 32% of people respectively named their specific pillow and mattress as must-haves for drifting off – well, there’s nothing like your own bed, is there? A combined 18% of respondents told us they need either a cooling or heated blanket at bedtime, which fits well with what we know about temperature being so important for sleep. That’s why we love bamboo: it’s thermoregulating, reacting intuitively to your body temperature to keep you at just right degrees.

Other sleep aids favoured by our survey group include music, pillow sprays, eye masks and podcasts. We’d love to know about yours – why not share over on Instagram and tag us, @PandaLondon.

Are you sharing a bed?

Sharing a bed has some incredible benefits, so we were interested in finding out how many people across the UK are snuggling up to somebody at night. The answers follow a similar trend to our previous sleep report, with more people sharing a bed than not.

Who’s in the bed?  Percentage
Just me 41%
Me & partner and/or pet 59%

It’s nice to see those furry friends not getting left out! If you are among those who never get to hog the whole duvet, then it might be worth considering a mattress with enhanced motion isolation. Our award-winning Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Pro combines high-density memory foam with seven expertly-placed zones of pocket springs as well as Comfort Base layer, designed to absorb excess movement and prevent disturbances from wriggly partners.

And that’s a wrap on our 2025 Sleep Report; you can find the full breakdown of questions, answers and sleep statistics in our infographic. Sleep is an incredibly valuable tool when it comes to improving our health and well-being, and our annual survey helps us discover the factors affecting UK sleep quality. In turn, this helps us to shape product development and know where to focus our efforts when it comes to helping the UK sleep better than ever.
