Say hello to our new hero, our Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Topper. The ultimate upgrade to your bedtime, you’ll benefit from advanced support, cushioned comfort and better breathability. Improved sleep may not happen overnight; it can take time for your body to adjust to a new topper.

A Hybrid Mattress Topper combines memory foam and springs, so when you lie down at bedtime, you feel a sinking-in sensation, then bounce back. In comparison, a traditional spring mattress topper is much bouncier, offering a supportive lift rather than a ‘hug’ from an all-memory foam type. Our Hybrid Topper includes a free 30-night trial. This gives you the opportunity to test it, and it’s the recommended time period for your body to adjust to a new sleep surface.

Why a hybrid topper can feel different at first

You have two systems working to support you during the night. A comfort layer of memory foam where you sink in, combined with a layer of micro-springs which push you back. It can feel odd if you’re used to the squishy feeling of a memory foam topper. Hybrid toppers feel firmer as the coils add more structure and a rebound feeling.

Your sleeping experience will differ depending on why you added a Hybrid Topper to your mattress. If it's an old mattress that dips, a hybrid topper won’t fix it; you’ll feel cradled with the extra cushioning. If you want more comfort from a mattress which is firm, a hybrid is a good option because it’s plush on top, yet buoyant underneath.

Unboxing, expansion and first-night expectations

Below you’ll find a guide on how to set up your Hybrid Bamboo Topper.

  1. Roll with it! Our topper comes rolled up, so prepare for the magic to unfold.
  2. Place your new topper on the bed. Using household scissors, carefully cut and remove its recyclable sleeve.
  3. Position your topper using its corner straps.
  4. Give your new topper room to breathe by keeping the windows open during expansion.
  5. Wait 12-36 hours and voila! Your topper is ready for bed.

Will there be a “new product” smell (off-gassing)?

Off-gassing is the term for the smell a new mattress topper emits as it expands. This doesn’t signify that anything is wrong; rest assured, it’s a normal part of the process and completely harmless.

Can I sleep on it immediately?

You can sleep on your new mattress topper immediately after unrolling it, but we recommend waiting until it fully expands. This is when it is at its thickest and, therefore, most comfortable.

Days 2–7: The “break-in” week (what’s normal vs not)

Support changes can feel like firmness changes

At a medium to firm rating, if you’re used to a memory foam mattress or topper, then our Hybrid Mattress Topper could feel firmer at first. At its core is our dense layer of orthopaedic-grade 3rd generation foam, designed to contour to your sleeping position, and a micro-spring layer for targeted body support.

Hybrids provide responsive support, meaning they rebound quickly and feel firmer than other mattress topper types. Sleepers who are investing in a hybrid topper to rejuvenate a tired mattress will notice the difference, benefiting from improved support.

Back/hip/shoulder feedback in the first week

The first week of sleeping on your new mattress topper is still an adjustment phase, and not everyone has the same experience. Your shoulders, back, and hips can feel good, sore, or just different. The reason for the varied experience is that a hybrid topper changes how your weight is distributed.

Tips to improve:

  • Try your usual sleep position for a few nights.
  • If you sleep on your side or back, check your pillow height (a mismatched pillow can mimic mattress discomfort).
  • Keep the room temperature stable. The recommended sleeping temperature is 16-18°C (overheating increases restlessness).

If it feels “too firm” or “too soft” in week one

Too firm:

Check your bedding isn’t too tight – soft bedding compresses the surface.

Too soft:

The mattress underneath could be the culprit – an old mattress which dips will affect the feel.

Week 2: Comfort starts to stabilise

The second week of sleeping on your new mattress topper is significant, as you should feel less sore on waking and have fewer pressure points. There’s a consistency in how you feel each night with less tossing and turning as your body adapts.

Small tweaks that make a big difference

During this time, you should check that your topper is aligned on your bed and that the straps are securely in place.

Weeks 3–4: Your “true” feel (the evaluation phase)

How to judge if it’s right for you

If you answer ‘yes’ to the questions below, then your topper is the right one for you!

  • Do you wake up with less stiffness?
  • Do pressure points feel reduced?
  • Is sleep less interrupted?
  • Is temperature comfort improved?

What can prevent you from feeling the benefits?

Below is a list of reasons why your Hybrid Bamboo Topper is not topping up your sleep levels:

What lies beneath

Your mattress underneath could have support issues, such as sagging or dips. Ensure your bed base hasn’t got any worn box springs or broken bed slats.

Above as below

If your bed frame and mattress setup are good, it could be a pillow-mismatch issue or an overly tight fitted sheet. Our Hybrid Bamboo Pillow is the perfect addition to your bedtime and suits all sleeping positions.

Topper troubleshooting in the first 30 days

“My topper is slipping”

Our Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Topper comes with straps and a silicone base to keep it in place. If it’s slipping during the night, check the straps are fitted properly. If the straps are secured, then your fitted sheet or protector could be pulling them away. Our Bamboo Mattress Protector is compatible with our mattress toppers and has a 32cm skirt depth, fitting most mattresses with a topper.

“I’m overheating”

Our toppers are made from breathable bamboo, which is naturally thermoregulating, keeping you comfortable at night. Avoid synthetic blankets, especially if you suffer from night sweats, as they can make the condition worse. A duvet tog of around 10 is warm enough for winter. The maximum duvet tog is 15, for extreme winter weather or for those who sleep cold.

“It’s lumpy/uneven”

There are reasons for an uneven topper in the first 30 days, and they can be fixed.

  • Incomplete expansion – our topper arrives rolled up, meaning it can take longer to fully expand.
  • Layer shift – Hybrid toppers combine materials. If the internal layers aren’t tightly constructed, they can bunch with movement.
  • Bedding too tight
  • Body impressions or heat

To fix these issues, try the following:

  • Leave your topper uncovered in a well-ventilated room for 72 hours.
  • Rotate your topper.
  • If your mattress underneath is lumpy or uneven, leave your topper on the floor for one night to see if this makes a difference.

After trying out the above steps, if there are still persistent lumps, dips, waves, or ridges, then contact our customer service team for advice.

“The smell hasn’t faded”

The smell fades quickly, but if it’s lingering for longer than usual, leave it in a ventilated room, and stand it on its side, so both sides are aired out. Avoid any fragrance in the same room. A smell that doesn't fade could indicate an issue with your topper, especially if it is a damp odour. Contact our customer service team for a solution.

How to care for your Hybrid Bamboo Topper during the first month

Protect it from day one

Add a protector to your topper to maximise its lifespan. Our Bamboo Mattress Protector is highly breathable, antimicrobial, and ultra-thin, helping extend the life of your topper. Providing a barrier against dirt and dust, it will keep your bed hygienic and in good condition.

Cleaning basics

Our Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Topper comes with a handy zip-off cover, so it’s easy to clean. Remove the cover and put it in the washing machine on a cool wash of up to 40 degrees, then hang dry. For the topper interior, spot cleaning only. Don’t soak it, as this could cause damage to the foam.

Long-term maintenance (quick bullets)

Rotation

  • In the first month, rotate your topper once a week, but after that, you can reduce it to 4-8 weeks. Don’t flip it!

Storage tips

  • Clean your topper and let it air out for 24-48 hours before storing it away. Make sure it is flat and covered in a breathable storage bag. Keep it somewhere out of direct sunlight, in a cool, dry place with a stable temperature. Top tip: Don’t stack any items on top of your topper!

When to contact Panda support

All our products are inspected before they reach you. There is a rare occasion when our topper develops an unexpected fault. We’ve provided a checklist below of when to contact Panda’s customer service team.

  • Not expanding properly after the advised period
  • Strong odour persists unusually long
  • Visible defects, tearing, and abnormal lumps
  • Ongoing pain that doesn’t improve
