Autumn is beginning to segue into Winter, and for most of us, the urge to wrap up warm and stay cosy is prevalent. As nights draw in and the temperature starts to drop, we all want a bedroom that will keep us warm at night. But, on the flip side, we also don’t want to be surrounded by synthetic fabrics that will leave us clammy and sweaty in the morning. Fortunately, there are plenty of eco-friendly bedroom décor ideas that will not only keep your body temperature happy from dawn till dusk, but they’ll also add that cosy vibe in a planet-friendly manner.

But what are the current eco-friendly trends, and how can you incorporate them into your home? Let’s take a look in more detail.

Sustainable textiles and materials

If you want to look after the planet but also keep cosy at night, you can’t beat bedroom furniture and bedding that uses bamboo. And Panda offer a huge range of products in this area to keep you comfy at night, from bamboo mattresses through to bamboo duvets and pillows. But why is bamboo such a good option, whatever the weather? Well, not only is it breathable and temperature-regulating, meaning it will keep you comfortable in all temperatures, but it’s also naturally hypoallergenic and great for sensitive skin. Bamboo is a sustainable resource and, best of all, all Panda products are recyclable to help reduce landfill.

Bedding is vitally important in the colder months – you’ll want to invest in materials that feel soft against the skin and make you look forward to getting into bed. Along with bamboo, fabrics such as organic cotton and French linen are ideal – Panda’s bamboo & French linen bedding set is a great fit for any time of year, making your bedroom an inviting place to be.

Autumnal colour palette

The autumn colour palette ties in with the beautiful colours you’ll see outside in nature, with earthy tones coming to the fore. Think of warm and welcoming tones, such as warm reds, forest greens, inky blues and rich browns. Any touches of these colours are bound to make your bedroom an appealing place to be, as well as adding a cocooning feel that’s ideal as the weather cools down.

Winter colour palette

As temperatures plummet further, the winter colour palette introduces more jewel tones, with holly berry red, emerald green and cobalt blue coming to the fore. But you can also look at more burnished tones, such as burgundy, navy, and warm grey.

Bringing the outdoors in

Autumn and winter bedroom décor lends itself to sustainable materials that bring a touch of the outside into your home. If you’re looking for new or perhaps vintage furniture, look at products made with reclaimed wood, jute, bamboo, cork or recycled metal. You can also consider incorporating biophilic design into the bedroom by incorporating natural elements that highlight a connection with nature. The simplest way to do this is to introduce plants into the bedroom, as plants have been proven to lower stress levels. Plants also release oxygen at night, along with removing carbon dioxide and toxins from the bedroom, which will undoubtedly help to improve your sleep and make for a more restful night.

Staying cosy during the autumn and winter months

As I’ve already mentioned, you want to add bedding to your bedroom that will keep you warm during the cooler months without making you clammy and sweaty from synthetic materials. Start with a duvet with a high enough tog rating to keep you warm, but made from natural materials that regulate your temperature and keep you comfortable. Panda’s Cloud duvet is the perfect fit, with its 10.5 tog rating and natural materials that combine to keep you cosy without overheating.

Layering is another way to add warmth in the colder months. Throws made with wool or velvet add warmth and can be purchased in a range of beautiful tones, colours and patterns that will play into the seasonal vibe. And, of course, if you’re of a really reptilian nature as I am, you could also consider adding an electric blanket to warm up your bed before you get into it.

Seasonal scents

If you don’t want to invest in many new products, you can add candles, reed diffusers, and sprays with seasonal scents, which will immediately help evoke an autumnal or winter vibe. As scent is linked to memories and emotions, it’s a simple way to help your body relax and unwind. Everyone has different ideas as to what scents are tied to certain seasons, but these are the ones I associate most with each season.

Autumn

  • Pumpkin
  • Sandalwood
  • Amber
  • Lavendar
  • Maple
  • Vanilla

Winter

  • Clove
  • Cinnamon
  • Cranberry
  • Vanilla
  • Orange
  • Spiced apple
  • Cedar

Of course, these are just some suggestions, and you may well have other ideas of your own, along with particular scents you associate with each season.

Mindful minimalism and upcycling

Beyond choosing bedroom furniture and bedding that’s eco-friendly, you can also look at buying vintage pieces. A second-hand piece of furniture is kinder to the environment and, if it needs a little work, you can look at upcycling it to bring it back to its original beauty.

However, before you invest in any significant new buys, take a look around you at your existing décor and consider whether you can rejig or even remove some of it to create a new and more mindful setup. Start by decluttering visual clutter – put away bottles and tidy up cords, before giving all your surfaces a good clean to add instant freshness to your home. You can also restyle the furniture you already have. Try moving furniture around the room, swap out cushions and throws between your bedroom and living room and, to refresh a room quickly, add a touch of greenery to the space.

To maintain an eco-friendly space, you don’t want to keep adding new pieces to your bedroom, but rather work with what you already have. Having said this, updating your bed linen is probably the quickest way to revitalise a bedroom and, by choosing Panda’s sustainable options, you’ll be buying a product that does its bit for the environment with its production values.
